Here we go again …

error message

I thought it would return to normal, but apparently it’s not. Another error had poped up in the last few days. This time it’s the 500 error. Besides that, no one new volunteered to help out. Which makes me think that this site is not worth saving and that I should just scrape the whole thing. People seem to preferred the old forum styles of those other sites, because … well … for once .. they went through the registration process, download lengthy videos, brand them, upload them and repost them to forums … while putting up with all the popups, blinking ads, moving ads (you know what I’m talking about, those things that move up and down as you scroll .. seriously .. how annoying is that?)

As we stand right now, we have several choices. 1. Close down the site, because there are tons of forums/scripted sites out there already (not so when I first started this project, there were like 2 … and they are both forums.) so we don’t need this site any more (people tends to be loyal to forums anyway). 2. Sell this site off and let others take over (there had been quite a few tempting offers already, but I have rejected all of them because I want this site to stay free). They might turn it into a membership site, or recycling it to be another addition of their own site and litter it with in-your-face ads. 3. Make this site private. The public won’t be able to use it any more. But this will definitely lighten the server load, and make the site small enough to be easily manageable. We can then run it off an old computer somewhere with a dsl line. There are a few other options, but those are the only ones I can think of so far.

For comparision, you guys can take a look at a new site, narutobuzz.com, which asked for a donation $1500 and they got that within days. Check out the site for yourself to see that I’m telling the truth. ) Which make me think … “man, I’m building a wrong site” … lol … I’ve decided to put my other projects on hold also. You guys saw what I’ve done comparing to similar video sites, so you can guess what kind of stuffs I was working on (yes … they were all going to be free too .. -) ). Heck, this site took me three whole months of planning before I even typing up the first line of code. Granted, I have a full time job and only able to work on it during my spare times, but it still 3 months nonetheless. The first beta that I released to the public, those who were members back then should remember what it first looked like, was around 1500 lines of code.

It’s a shame that we are about 10x bigger (counting the number of online people at one time, and the number of videos we have) than we were 3 months ago when the site were open to the public and it seems that we might be reaching the end already. Other staff members are trying hard to keep the site going. But it seems hopeless, so I’m not even going to ask for support any more. I didn’t expect any monetary contribution since I wanted to give access for free, but I didn’t expect that support in other departments would also be lacking. Maybe I should make people register, then make post to earn point and then use those points to watch videos … maybe then it would be different. Anyway, if you guys have already signed up for the newsletter, you will be notify when any “big news” are happening. If anyone want to help me translate this into vietnamese and other languages, please let me know. I know quite a few people came here from european countries like germany, switzerland. So you might not understand all the english stuffs that I’ve been writing … lol. However, I’m too lazy to translate myself.

So, until the boat sinks …. enjoy your stay …
